Sue Gramse, Donna and Bill Fox once again put on an exhibit at Equifest 2025. Equifest covers all equestrian groups, breeds, tack, feed stores, contractors and anything else related to horses. This was a great venue to present the Morgan Horse and the NYSMHS. I find so many people have no idea what a Morgan horse is and what they can do. There are still people even in the horse world that think they are some kind of work horse obviously referring to the Justin Morgan Had A Horse story.
We, as representatives of the NYSMHS, displayed many photos of our beloved Morgans in shows but also as the versatile horses they are including trail, reining, carriage, jumping, dressage, fox hunting and of course the best of all Family Morgans at home with children. We also had a history display with Jeanne Herrick’s picture of Justin with his two prominent sons and the Morgan Archive Card Album. Also had books available for visitors to view by authors such as Jeanne Herrick, Sally Spenser, Margaret Cabell Self , Peggy Pittenger and others.
There were two Morgans represented in the breed presentation thanks to Heart To Heart Morgans, Alexander, NY. While not members of our club I appreciate them putting forth that effort. They also started some discussion with visitors to our booth about colors in the breed. We explained the ban in the past of any Morgan with white above the hocks and knees except for face markings had been dropped and opened registry to all markings and colors. I feel this is another opportunity to market our Morgans as many horse people love flashy colors and more chrome to show off their Morgans.
While at the booth we handed out membership applications and renewed three members. I also enjoyed meeting members who visited and now I can put a face to a name. It was great! Hopefully we will be able to represent the Morgan and NYSMHS next year. We would appreciate any volunteers or more members visiting our booth and if you have any photos for our display, please attach to an email to demorgan@lakeplains.net.
