NYSMHS High Score Awards

DEADLINE FOR 2024 HIGH POINT AWARDS: October 31, 2024

Free to all NYSMHS members!

A longstanding recognition program dating back to the early 1960’s, the New York State Morgan Horse Society’s High Score Awards are given out at the close of each year at our annual banquet.

Winners are the horses or exhibitors that score the highest number of points from NYSMHS approved shows, as well as other shows with USEF approved Morgan Divisions. Dressage, Promotion, Trail at Shows, Pleasure Trail and Carriage are also included with slightly different qualifications.

Our program covers many different divisions for participating members, from Park Saddle to Western Dressage, Ranch Horse, Equitation, Academy, and Walk-Trot to Leadline. We have big changes in Dressage and Western Dressage with additional categories and new criteria to reach more participants!

  • For open categories, horse owner(s) must be members of NYSMHS. For Jr. Exhibitor and Equitation categories, horse owner(s) and Jr. Exhibitor must be members.
  • Entries need to be post-marked by October 31st. Awards will be announced and awarded at the Year End Banquet.

Remember, points start to accumulate from the date of your membership. This means you must be a member before you start to show!

Congratulations to Annette Bakic

Our 2022 NYSMHS Silver Horseshoe Winner

Annette has been an active and dedicated member of the New York State Morgan Horse Society for many, many years. Since 2004, she has served as Recording Secretary and has been (and continues to be) responsible for recording the minutes of all meetings of the Board of Directors. I suspect she has been to more club meetings than any member over the last 18 years. With the changes necessitated by the COVID pandemic, Annette took on the role of maintaining the club’s Zoom account and organizing the many Zoom calls for all Board and committee meetings. As Recording Secretary, Annette has worked with six Presidents and numerous officers and directors. She has gladly worked with everyone, always with a positive “can do” attitude and with the objective of serving our club and the Morgan horse to the best of her ability.

In addition to her duties as an officer, Annette has been an active and continuous member of the Regional Show committee and Sport Horse committee. In 2019, she was instrumental in ensuring that we were able to hold the dressage and western dressage competition at the Expo Center. Using her skills as a sales representative, she took on the fight with the fairgrounds and was civil, but direct, and we got the Expo Center!

Annette has also been a longtime advocate and ambassador for the Morgan Horse in both traditional and western dressage. Starting with Hartland Vivoque and then Fortress Initial and now Twentieth Century Fox and BP Blessing “n” Honor, she has been a constant presence in the dressage ring at the Regional show, as well as open competitions and clinics.

Thank you, Annette, for everything you’ve done and continue to do for our club and the breed we all love.

They WON!

The NYSMHS Junior Exhibitor Team Challenge Award

This award is presented to the Junior Exhibitor-Horse team that accumulates the most points in a single seat at three (3) USEF rated shows in New York. Along with the Jr. Exhibitor pleasure classes, equitation classes from each show will be counted. (Showmanship and Fitting & Showmanship classes are considered equitation classes.)

If the team shows at more than three (3) shows, shows with the most points will be included. Points from the NYSMHS Western NY and NYSMHS Regional shows will automatically be counted towards the award.

If the Junior Exhibitor-Horse team shows in multiple seats, the seat with the most points will be used for calculating point standing. The team will only be entered in the award once. (For example, if the team shows in Hunter Pleasure and Western Pleasure, only one seat will be used for calculating points.)

Junior Exhibitors participating in the Walk-Trot division will be included in this award.

Junior Exhibitor MUST be a member of the NYSMHS. Accumulation of points begins with the beginning (or renewal) of the membership. Points earned prior to the membership will not be counted. Points will be awarded per the NYSMHS High Score program with all shows carrying the same point weight and championship classes counting double. Entrance for award consideration is automatic.

A Champion and a Reserve Champion award will be presented at the NYSMHS Year End Banquet. The NYSMHS Junior Exhibitor Team Challenge Award is sponsored by Sue Gramse. Contact Sue by phone if you have questions, or by emailing Nikki at nikkismithgorecki@gmail.com.
