From the President's Desk
The first few months of 2025 have been very busy. January was the Stallion Service Auction and High Point Awards banquet. These were held January 25th at the Del Lago Resort. There were 60 amazing stallions offered during the auction, bringing in almost $60,000 in fees. The afternoon of the 25th was filled with our members receiving their high point awards, and our High Point committee found beautiful cutting boards for Champions. It was so fun to see the results of the 2024 horse show season!
February found our committees working hard to create our events for 2025. The Western District horse show is being held May 23-25 at the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg, NY. The New York Regional Horse Show will be held September 10-13 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY. March 15-16, our club partnered with UPHA Chapter 14, Connecticut Morgan Horse Association and Massachusetts Morgan Horse for a Boot Camp riding clinic. This was an awesome event! There were five clinicians, 51 riders and 50 more auditors at the beautiful Lingering Hills Facility in East Windsor, CT. Saturday consisted of 45 minutes of riding instruction for 5 different groups. Saturday evening, many attended the Connecticut Opening Night Gala that included the year end awards. Sunday, the clinic consisted of practice horse show classes. This was a very fun day! The crowd had almost as much fun as the riders did.
The start of 2025 has been lots of hard work, but so much fun. It will be great to see all the wonderful Morgan events that will be coming in the next few months. Please share with us here in the Trader all your spring fun!

A quick search on Google reveals that a “sport horse” usually refers to an equine bred for the traditional Olympic disciplines of eventing, dressage, and show jumping. Such horses are typically athletic, graceful, bold, and have good muscle/bone and good minds. Most often, you will find the term applied to breeds like Thoroughbreds, Trakehners, and Irish Sport Horses. Where, then, …
